"What's an audiologist?" I hear that daily when introducing myself and then give a little talk about what I do! I'm ready to make the public more aware of what my colleagues and I do on a daily basis! I'm a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) meaning I received a doctorate degree specializing in my field. Most of my colleagues and the profession of audiology have Au.Ds while a few still hold Master degrees. We specialize in hearing and balance disorders. We diagnose hearing loss. We are hearing and balance experts! We are the profession that people come to when they have trouble hearing, tinnitus, or vertigo. Audiologists fit hearing aids and other amplification, we determine the need for cochlear implants and help with the programming of them. Audiologists work in a variety of settings, allowing for our individuality and career and personal goals to be met.
Audiology is a profession that's ever changing and requires a lot of expertise! We as audiologists are able to really hone our career into something we want it to be! As one of the top careers, audiology is a profession I'm proud to be a part of!
